Mr. President-elect, $15 Billion Is Not Enough

As I am sure most of us know, Senator Barack Obama from Illinois is the new President-elect of the United States of America. I do not mean this post to become a petition, an idea to agree with, or a mass read blog that should get to the President-elect and his transition team. The sole purpose of this blog is to entertain you and share my points of view with you.

During the Presidential Campaign, Barack Obama promised to invest fifteen billion dollars in green energy and other global warming issues we are currently facing. Fifteen billion dollars per year probably sounds like a lot of money to most of you. However, to arrive at a better amount of money that should be spent for this cause during Mr. Obama's term as president, we must first put this money in perspective.

Recently, as I am sure we all know, the US Government has allowed for 700 BILLION DOLLARS to go to already wealthy CEO's. Supposedly, this plan would help the current economical downturn.

The United States spends 10 billion dollars per MONTH on the Iraq War. Thats 120 Billion per year. I don't think fighting a pointless war should be EIGHT TIMES more important than the fate of the world as we know it.

The United States releases 6,049,435 THOUSAND METRIC TONS EVERY YEAR of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. That's $320,471,750 just to offset the US carbon emmisions per year. Now multiply that by five and you get the price to offset the WORLD'S carbon emmisions. $1.5B for the whole world. The emmisions as well as the carelessness of the leaders of the world are increasing. I don't think anyone hopes to live on this planet only for the next 40 years. This also is just for the years to come, if the carbon rates stay the same, not including the unacceptable amount of greenhouse gases that are already in the atmosphere.

Please remember the last estimate would be perfect if carbon dioxide were the only greenhouse gas we were dealing with. Other greenhouse gases include water vapor, and methane. The removal of these gases would be even greater.

Please excuse any mistakes I might have made, I don't check over my work.

I am an Obama supporter.
